Why is it important to take a Full STD Screen test?
When you engage in unprotected sex, you put yourself at risk for a number of STDs. Many of these are asymptomatic, so you will not know you have been infected. If you have had unprotected sex, the Full STD Screen test is recommended because it tests for eight common STDs rather than individual ones, including those that do not display any visible symptoms. If you receive a positive result for any of the STDs, you will be able to begin a course of treatment.
STDs that are not treated are dangerous because they can cause serious health problems. Infertility is one of these concerns, and it can affect both women and men. In most cases, a simple course of antibiotics will completely cure the infection, so it is best for you to take a Full STD test as soon as possible so you can start the treatment course and clear the infection.
Which STDs does the Full STD Screen test detect?
- Mycoplasma genitalium
- Bacterial vaginosis (BV)
- Genital herpes
- Ureaplasma urealyticum
- Trichomonas vaginalis
- Non-specific urethritis
At what point should I take a Full STD Screen test?
You need to leave a gap of at least two weeks between the time you had unprotected sex and when you take the Full STD Screen test. This is because there are some STDs which do not show on the test until two weeks have passed. We also recommend that you take a second Full STD Screen test after you have finished a course of treatment for an STD to ensure that the infection has been completely eradicated.
How do I take a Full STD test?
A Full STD test is recommended if you have been experiencing symptoms of an STD or if you would just like the confirmation that you are not infected. When you receive the Full STD Screen test in the post, you will need to urinate into the specimen tube provided and then send it back to the laboratory using the prepaid envelope that you will find included in the package.
How long will I have to wait to get my results?
You will be sent an email when your results are available for you to view. This usually takes up to five working days after the Full STD test kit has been received and processed by the laboratory. When you receive the email, you will be able to use the link provided to log in to the LabsDirect secure members' area where you will be able to see the results of the test.
What should I do if I test positive?
You should not be alarmed if you test positive for an STD, because many STDs can be cleared completely by antibiotics. If you receive a positive result, we will provide you with details about which medications you require. These will need to be prescribed by a doctor, which can be done online through an online consultation.
