Why is it important to get tested for gonorrhoea?

Though the majority of people with gonorrhoea (gonorrhea) will display symptoms, it is possible to be infected with this STD and not be aware of it. Gonorrhoea, is the second most common bacterial STI in the UK, after chlamydia. Typical symptoms include discharge, rashes and itching, bleeding and painful bowel movements. But often gonorrhoea shows no symptoms, so it's important to get tested regularly if you're sexually active.

You should take a gonorrhea test kit two weeks after you last had unprotected sex; otherwise the infection might not show up on the test. If you've recently been treated for the STI, you should also take a test to check that your infection has cleared successfully.
