While genital herpes is a viral STI caused by the herpes simplex virus, and syphilis is a bacterial STI caused by the Treponema pallidum bacterium; both infections can show visible symptoms in the form of lesions or sores around the genital area.
Although some people can be asymptomatic for months and even years, genital herpes can cause visible symptoms like red fluid-filled blisters. Syphilis symptoms usually first appear in the form of a sore spot on the genitals, followed by a rash and flu-like symptoms.
The Symptomatic Lesion Swab test is a PCR test intended for people who are already displaying actual visible symptoms of an infection. You should take this test only if you have noticed abnormal blisters, sores or a rash around the genital area or even on other parts of your body and you would like to rule out whether they may be STI-related or not.
The Symptomatic Lesion Swab test can be used to test whether the rash or lesions you are displaying are caused by a genital herpes or syphilis infection or not. As it’s a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) swab test, the sample you collect will go through extremely stringent and technologically advanced laboratory testing to ensure the most accurate outcome. You need to be showing visible symptoms before you attempt to take this test.
If you are interested in taking a Symptomatic Lesion Swab test, all you need to do is complete an order online and wait for your test to arrive in the post. Once you’ve received your test, simply follow the clear instructions provided to take a swab of the actual lesion and then post it back to our laboratory in the prepaid envelope provided. The test will include one rayon-tipped swab on a flexible and extendable aluminium wire only. This test doesn’t require you to provide a urine or blood sample.
It usually takes between four to five days for our laboratory to complete testing. You’ll be notified via email when your results are available and you’ll be able to check them yourself by logging into your secure member’s profile.
Unfortunately there is no cure for genital herpes, but there are numerous topical and oral medications that can help you control this condition successfully. If you are currently experiencing an outbreak of herpes or syphilis, our doctors will be able to help recommend prescription treatments to provide relief from symptoms and speed up recovery.
